Ref SE109 (Province of Granada – Bacor) Bacor and what it has to offer. The village is quite small and totally unspoilt. It has only had electricity and running water to each home for approximately 30 years. You can still see the remains of the old castle towering above the village. There are about 700 residents. Most of the local people are elderly as there is not much in the way of work here and younger people, once they reach a certain age, leave and move to the larger places such as Malaga, Almeria, Alicante, Ibiza, Barcelona and Benidorm. Bacor has many shops. There is a very well stocked Spar, a smaller Coviran and yet another very well stocked if small Tiende Reme.. There is a local bakery also an excellent and friendly butcher. A weekly market is held on Sundays.There is also a Post Office, a pharmacy and Doctors surgery. Also a very good school with excellent scholastic results. At present there are approximately 26 pupils aged between 4 and 11 The village also boasts a warm friendly cafe bar and a bar Pensionista, for the older person. On the other hand there is a Discotheque for the more energetic on the occasional Saturday night, doesn't open till 11.30pm and shuts anytime up to 5.am. Free access to the internet is available to all residents, at the Ayuntamiento (town hall). We have an annual fiesta in early June and the whole village joins in. It lasts for 3 days and no expense is spared. It ends on the Sunday night with the best firework display we have seen for many years. Not bad for a small village. The town of Baza is only 20 minutes away with its large market on a Wednesday. Guadix too, is only 20-25 minutes away. The following places all have airports Granada 1 hour, Malaga 2 and half, Almeria 1 and half, Alicante 3/3 and half and Murcia 2 hours. The ski resort of Sierra Nevada is just over an hour away. Also the Alpujarras. For recreation there are limitless activities There are many walks round Bacor, either through the olive groves or along the river bank. Lake Negratin, 13kms long, is only 10 minutes away and offers such activities as swimming, fishing, boating or just sun bathing. That is only on the Freila side. On the Cueves De Campo side you have the naturist playa as well as the normal playa. Further round the lake past Zujar you have the Thermal Baths. For walkers there is Sierra De Baza,which is just the other side of the Autovia from Bacor.There is a friendly and welcoming restaurant and visitor center.
